Dxpedition in Lebanon

I got to some radio listening in Lebanon, Indiana. So I have learned that you CHWO from Toronto but can not get the much closer WOWO. Much be something about how the antennas are aimed or the nature of the am skip. They are both 50,000 watts of blowtorch. Just interesting but not conclusive.

Dutch QSL

This QSL from Radio Netherlands I got (I think but not positive -no year on it) was December of 2005. It is interesting to look at the information on this since it says I heard them on 6165 KHZ. I know that there is a tendency to keep the same frequencies and only changing for the seasonal best but that is not always the case. Shortwave broadcasters do change their location on the dial from time to time.

Morse Code Tutorial

I realize that Morse Code is not needed for your ham license anymore and is becoming a dying format but i still think it is something good to know. It still can get through when a lot of other formats will not. There is some freeware for palm that will help you learn to listen to the code.

The website for it is here.

Enjoy!

Maple Leaf Mailbag QSL

This is one I got for listening to RCI on 6100 KHZ on February 5, 2006. The transmitter was RCI's transmitter In Sackville. That location of transmitters has served more than just RCI well.

CHWO QSL

I thought I would post this QSL since I sent away for the latest offering for CHWO QSL. This one I got for a reception report back in January of 2005. Those 50,000 watts sure make for easy listening most nights. There are some nights where the propagation fails I can hear this flame throwere of a station more often than not.

WBCQ QSL

This is a QSL card I got from WBCQ back in January of 2005. This will be the first of a series of posts I will do where I will scan the image of the QSL in and I will the details of the card as I am able. The frequency I heard WBCQ on for this one was 7415 KHZ. Come to think of it, that is the only frequency I Hear them on even though they do use other other frequencies.

New Year at the Shack

It is a new year and time to get back to the shack. My listening and reporting in to the blog took a back seat to the holidays. Time to get back to listening and learning and posting. There are a couple of things I hoping to do. I found the manual for my police scanner. I set it up for the first responders, local railroad and aircraft, and gmrs/frs. It can also do marine, cb and ham. I am going to look into monitoring those frequencies. Research on how to set up and which frequencies will have the biggest payoff are in order. I will be also trying to post QSL's both past and as they come in. I am also hoping that reception gets better on the shortwave bands so I can start sending in more reception reports.

In the meantime, I am finding solder smoke on mp3 interesting. I am also test trying my C. Crane fm transmitter. It's been working really good at setting up several different sources of listening (computer, mp3 player and cd player) to the radios in the house. It works well but not perfect. It does not quit reach the whole house without a little help. With the running of a little antennae wire, the house is covered and is still easier than wiring the whole house. I can change inputs and outputs in a flash and the flexibility for listening is great. I got a wick wire antennae on a reel from Radio Shack that helps the reception really well. I'll have to do a review on that later.

Here's to some good listeing.
