New Year at the Shack

It is a new year and time to get back to the shack. My listening and reporting in to the blog took a back seat to the holidays. Time to get back to listening and learning and posting. There are a couple of things I hoping to do. I found the manual for my police scanner. I set it up for the first responders, local railroad and aircraft, and gmrs/frs. It can also do marine, cb and ham. I am going to look into monitoring those frequencies. Research on how to set up and which frequencies will have the biggest payoff are in order. I will be also trying to post QSL's both past and as they come in. I am also hoping that reception gets better on the shortwave bands so I can start sending in more reception reports.

In the meantime, I am finding solder smoke on mp3 interesting. I am also test trying my C. Crane fm transmitter. It's been working really good at setting up several different sources of listening (computer, mp3 player and cd player) to the radios in the house. It works well but not perfect. It does not quit reach the whole house without a little help. With the running of a little antennae wire, the house is covered and is still easier than wiring the whole house. I can change inputs and outputs in a flash and the flexibility for listening is great. I got a wick wire antennae on a reel from Radio Shack that helps the reception really well. I'll have to do a review on that later.

Here's to some good listeing.
